Once
used
and thrown.
I lie here,
forever. I am in excellent
company: they are my own kind, with slightly
different timelines of immortality. More of us are sprouted and discarded each day.
We are The Everlasting, we shall populate faster than humanity and bury those that created us and used us so brazenly.

Poetry type:

THE FIB is a type of poetry that follows the Fibonacci series i.e 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21…It is an infinite series and the next number in the series in the sum of the two preceding numbers.

Inspiration/Cause for the day: Edible Cutlery

I have used this type of poetry to portray that the number of use-and-throw items that are increasing continually(probably exponentially than following the Fibonacci series which many objects in nature follow). One use items range from plastic cutlery, packaging to diapers, menstruation pads and more. These end up in landfills and take a long time to decompose, if ever.

DID YOU KNOW?

Oh! But, how can I leave you on this dismal note? I present to you, Edible Cutlery! Now you can eat your food with your spoon and then eat up your spoon too! Wow! Why didn’t anyone think about this before? Narayana Peesapathy created edible cutlery and now is the founder of a company called BAKEYS which makes it in 3 different flavours.

Yeah, yeah, I know, there is that alternative that all the people in this world will carry their own cutlery wherever they go to eat, for the sake of this planet’s sustainability. But, until that day, this is a damn good solution.

Here is a super short video explaining the product by the inventor itself.

For each letter this April, I shall be presenting a poem inspired by ‘something’ that is making our world a little bit kinder, a little bit greener. The ‘something’ is a mix of people, movements, thoughts, or organizations who are having a positive influence on the world around us. Such an interesting theme and it is amazing as to how you are experimenting various poetic forms while giving out a social message. Kudos

I came here because of your Fib poem, because I’m a huge Fibonacci fan. But I’m going to comment on your comment about carrying around our own cutlery…We bought reusable straws. They come with their own straw cleaner so they don’t get gross inside, and I love them so much. However, we hardly ever have them during those times when we get offered straws. We use them often, but haven’t made much of a dent in the world’s supply of straws.

Did you know that straws used to be edible? They used to be made from pasta, which makes a lot of sense, when you think about it! I hope we go back in that direction someday. (By the way, I learned that bit of trivia while researching for my own A-Z challenge!)

No need to peep in the crystal ball to predict this future. We have given an open invitation to the demon.
    Another thoughtful, powerful poem, Namratha.

This is such a different poem. I would have never ever thought of this and I am sure this will make our enivronment much more cleaner and friendly. I wish the govt promotes such things especially in big weddings

I am loving it that how each day you are adding a social cause to your poems. Plastics are a menace and not much is being done to stop it. Great effort Namy.

Nice, didn’t know such a thing existed. I’d rather just carry my own, but this does beat the plastics.

Yes carrying our own or eating with hand are better alternatives.

Hi Namratha! Short and sweet poem and message…I guessed it by the first few verses. It´s good to be reminded time and again of our responsibilities towards Mother Nature. Oh, the edible spoon …read about that a long time ago as well. 🙂 Keep them coming!

Neat! I’d be willing to try edible cutlery. Add in some edible dishes, and there will be nothing to clean up at all! That’s a real time saver!
