It feels like a different lifetime that I wrote my last exams. Hmmm, am I that old? Just like everyone else I could always never wait for exams to be over. However, thinking back to those times I can only recall the good memories(except that one time when I studied so hard for my favorite subject and passed by just 1 mark!). Well, all those people who were wondering how I ever scored a lot of marks, be all ears: I am going to be sharing a few secrets. If you are one of those still in the exam writing phase of life, there are some important(questionably) ‘tips’ for you here.
It all started with the study holidays. One of my amazing theories(or absurd theories depending of your line of sight) is that people were actually meant to be awake at nights and sleep during the day! By some gross mistake, humankind got it wrong!(I am sure some of you will agree). So, usually during the study holidays, I followed a different routine. I studied all night and fell into bed the minute I heard the first bird chirping in the early morning. You might think it seems a little inconsistent, that my study time is limited by when a bird decides to wake up, but all I can do is dig up my results and show them to you. Tip 1: Don’t sleep till the crow caws.
I attributed a lot of my successes to the power of consistency of my rituals. Like I found a pattern, that I always did better when I wore one particular pair of formal pants. The story of ‘this’ pair of pants is that it was never really mine. I had borrowed it from a friend of mine(you know who you are:)), and decided to let it stay borrowed! The reasons were simple. A. It was really comfortable, B. It was my lucky pants. Tip 2: Steal some lucky pants and wear them for important exams.
Continuing on the exam rituals, so during my engineering the exams were usually in the afternoons. A couple of my friends usually used to pick me up, and I can still hear my friend complaining everyday, “Why are you still eating?”. Well, I had this habit of eating really slowly(not anymore, poor mommy) and usually I used to eat curd rice(tam bram power!), and it drove my friends mad! Anyways, the point I was really trying to make is I was always cool and relaxed just before the exams. I stopped studying atleast an hour before the exams began, while most of my friends thought that the last 2 mins before entering the exam hall was the most critical. Tip 3: Relax before exams, curd rice keeps you cool.
I did pretty decent in my 12th std exams. The secret was contained in a tape(yes, those were real, they existed, and those were the times of our lives) of The Sound Of Music. Before every board exam, I religiously listened to and sang along at the top of my voice:
And mind me with each step I am more certainEverything will turn out fineI have confidence the world can all be mineThey’ll have to agree I have confidence in meI have confidence in sunshineI have confidence in rainI have confidence that spring will come againBesides which you see I have confidence in me
Last and most important is Tip 5: JUST STUDY!
