As I sit here
here in this body of mine
cross-legged
and breathing in life
a small smile

and as I touch forefinger to thumb
I am overwhelmed
by the miracle that
That little gesture
entailed

the message that traversed
from the brain to the joints
through infinite
infinitesimal neurons and synapses

and somehow
my body knew
how to make the correct fingers move
in the right direction
to make a circle
as desired

just like it KNOWS
how to walk a mile
talk and write
how to create new life

Oh! What a miracle!
this body of mine.

my creator must be blinded
by all the intricate detailing
that went into weaving
every inch of this
exquisite tapestry

How does each of its cells
work so synchronously?

I vow
cherish its uniqueness,
love its curves,
nourish its health,
celebrate its beauty,
as long as I am blessed
to reside here.

Thank you, Sumana, for this prompt at Poets United. I truly enjoyed marvelling at the miracle that our body is. I hope you enjoy reading this poem as well as truly feel the beauty of the bodies that you have been blessed with.

What an out of box concept! Sitting inside ones’s own body and then marvelling, appreciating every bit of it.
Namratha you always provide me a fresh perspective.

I love your words and the truth therein. I too marvel at the workings of the human body and of all life, whether flora or fauna. The gift of life is a beautiful thing.

by the miracle” and so you take me with you in this voice, this enthusiasm for the tapestry of body in which we live.

It is wonderful to read this poem and marvel along wth you at the intricate design of the body – and of all cells in all life forms. Truly miraculous, the way everything works and connects. I loved this poem. We need to appreciate these bodies we so often take for granted.
