Why do you think we as women should work?  Answers to this question is usually a mix of these words: Independence, A sense of Identity, & Self-Confidence. Here I would like to present to you a new perspective, and maybe help you move forward in your journey to finding your way back to work or start working for the first time.

Here is my oh-so-awesome, definitely-worth-considering list of reasons why we as women should work.

10. To Enable Your Husband To Live The Life Of His Dreams

Have you ever wondered what your husband wants to do in his life? What is his passion?

Maybe he wants to travel the world.

Or he wants to be a writer? A filmmaker?

Maybe he wants to take up some obscure hobbies like Duct Tape Art or Egg Shell Carving!

Or start that business he always had on this mind!

Or just spend more time with his kids(with maximum father-kid bonding time=dad’s patience to fix the same puzzle for the 10th time).

Why is he not doing all this? Is he too busy working to follow his dream? Can he take risks in a one-income household? Maybe with your help, with you by his side earning the moolah, he can start doing the things he dreamed of doing as a child. So start working & earning, so that your husband can design a happy fulfilled life for himself!

9. Dressing Up Everyday = Happiness

Why Women Should Work Reason 9
@Work Fashion vs @Home Fashion

I was known as the Color-Coordinated Queen at work! Dressing up just makes me happy. And I am sure it does so to you too. If you are ever feeling really low or just plain bored out of your wits, just try dressing up, top-to-toe! And behold, suddenly there is a smile on your face.

If I am at home, my regular attire is any track pants matched with any top, which does not need to be ironed. This can be worn in the house, to take my son to the play area, go to the grocery store and so on, all of which are located inside the apartment complex.  Some of them even have mild stains from my son spitting up on me or from something I spilt on it while cooking (I am a little bit of a slob that way). Yeeew!

The point I am trying to make is, going to work outside of your home, motivates you to dress up every day, which in turn leads to lot of shopping, which directly translates to loads of happiness and goodwill towards the world:)

8. Never Waste Good & You Are Good

The Daily Mail reported that a whopping 96% of women feel guilty at least once a day. Be it, leaving our kids and going to work or not being able to cook a 5-star meal after working all day and cleaning up after everyone, we feel guilty for everything. So how come we aren’t yet feeling guilty for all the things we are not utilizing by not working?

You wonder what we are wasting? Here are just a few things off the top of my head:

  • Our brains
  • God given talents
  • Our education
  • Time & money spent on our education (some boy could have been educated instead, right??)
  • Skills we have acquired & developed over the years
  • Work experience

Let me tell you a short story:

Anita was a hardworking student. She stood first in her board exams at school. She was a gold medalist at college. She was promoted at work before her peers. She worked hard at every stage of her life & she loved it. Yet, she chose to give up all this because motherhood gave her new meaning, a new way of life. It’s what she always wanted. She adores her kid and she is generally happy. However, sometimes she recollects those days when she toiled day & night to get that 100 on her math test. Wow, those were the times! Everyone around her thought she was brilliant. Well, she isn’t so sure anymore. Do you just want to be yet another Anita?

7. Attain A Different Type Of Freedom

Being independent is one of the primary reasons women think they should work. Being independent & attaining freedom are completely different things. As much as we love our kids, Truly Deeply Madly, there are still times it becomes overwhelming for us and we sometimes want to break free.

SPECIAL ‘WORK’ OFFER: Get 8 Hours FREE From wiping bottoms, drying tears, hugging your children while they are in the middle of a tantrum, while simultaneously trying to fix a snack for yourself! Don’t you worry, your dear children and all the feeding, cuddling, and attempts to get them to sleep with the never ending “sleep playlist” which makes you fall asleep before them, all that and more will still be left for you to do, and some more when you get back.

6. Be the Women Society Expects You To Be: Selfless & Giving

Improve the economy.

Help employers achieve Gender Equality at the workplace

Help daycares earn a living.

Give jobs to the help.

Share your kids with others, let others take care of them and play with them for a while. Don’t be selfish!

Help grandparents spend more time with their grandchildren.

Be the Giving person society expects you to be. Follow the mantra “Go to work, to help the world!”

5. Save Your Adult Vocabulary

Some of my Toddler’s Vocabulary

  • mum mum = food
  • utherfy = butterfly
  • yesterday = tomorrow
  • fofa = sofa
  • moni = balloon (No idea how that came about, that doesn’t even rhyme)
  • badhidil = W (the letter W)

Sooner than later, if you spend most of your time only with them you are going to catch on. Next time someone comes home you might be saying “Oh yes, I remember we met tomorrow. Please sit on the fofa. Will you have some mum mum?”

Going out to work will help you talk to people your own age, have friends the same age & of course more gossip!

4. Make The Workplace A Better Place For Future Generations Of Women

Did You Know 1: Women are paid 25.6% lesser than men for the same type of job

Did You Know 2: Data Shows A Larger Pay Gap For Women With Children

Who is going to fight for policy changes & gender equality at the workplace if you are busy at home?  Who is going to make sure our daughters don’t face the same problems that we do due to bias at the office or at home or in the face of society? The men? Right!

And How about that Paid Maternity Leave for 3 years?? *Wishful thinking & Dopey Smile* Well, that’s the dream, isn’t it?

3. Follow “Don’t put all your Eggs In one basket” : SERIOUS POINT

What we know: Divorce Rates are on the rise. There are cases of both physical & mental abuse reported every day.

Well, I am just implying: Having an income of your own, helps you face bad situations & take tough decisions better.

2. Meet The Man Of Your Dreams

THIS IS STRICTLY FOR THOSE WHO ARE NOT YET MARRIED. IF YOU ARE MARRIED, THIS POINT IS NOT FOR YOU! I REPEAT, NOT FOR YOU! MOVE ON TO THE NEXT REASON.

Once upon a time, a boy saw a beautiful girl, walking up the stairs of his office. It was love at first sight. Then the girl disappeared. He searched all over the place but didn’t find her. He suddenly remembered he was supposed to take an interview that day & he was late for it. To his utter surprise & happiness, the girl he saw was the one who was sitting in the interview room. He interviewed her, & then a few months later married her. And they lived happily ever after.

This is just one of several modern fairytales. If you are looking for your soul mate, what better place to find him? Or he might just find you.

1+. Money Money Money

This is the most important reason of all and hence presented with an identity of its own.

As I mentioned at the beginning of this post, when you ask women why they should work, they answers vary usually over a couple of points but never have I openly seen a woman declare, IT’S FOR THE MONEY!!!! I LOVE MONEY!! I WANT MONEY, so I work!

If you ask women why they want to start a business, usually the answer is “I want to follow my passion, I always wanted to start something on my own. blah blah blah..” She would not usually say “I just want to make a lot of money to buy rich expensive stuff for myself”.

Would the world perceive her as too money-minded if she spoke her mind? She is a Gold-digger, digging for her own money! *Society turns its nose up* Says ‘No, no’ *Shaking its head side-to-side*

Money makes the world go around babe, get moving!

Hey Namy! I must tell you those are the most unique 9 odd reasons Why women should not quit. I used to for a long time work for financial independence , for the thrill of contributing and using my acumen for something beyond cooking up a storm . But lately I’ve felt that I am working till i figure what I want to really do . There are times when I really wish to quit but I guess I would carry on and the next time I feel like quitting for no reason at all I would read this list.

So tell me which one of those reasons applies to you?
