They stand next to each other,
akin two friends who smoke together,
passing on the baton of hope
from one toe to another.
They shall intersperse the grey of the living
with brush strokes of colour.
I am giving myself a free reign and writing some FREE VERSE today. You probably will be seeing more of this form by the time A-Z is over because this is my general style of writing: no constraints, no rhythm, no scansion(don’t worry it is a new word for me too), nothing. Just Freedom.
Inspiration/Cause for the day: The Mouth & Foot Painting Artists
My poem today is based on the painting above which captured my attention and enchanted me. It is an abstract painting created by Jui-chin Liao, a foot painter at the IMFA. The IMFA or The Mouth & Foot Painting Artists is an organization that consists of disabled artists who live by the motto “Self Help, Not Charity“.
With over 800 artists from 74 countries, the MFPA instills in its artists a sense of self-respect and dignity that comes from earning an independent, honest and secure livelihood through the sale of their artwork.
They sell their original paintings as well as prints in various sizes, including greeting cards, postcards, etc. I will leave you today with a sample of their artwork. There are hundreds more to be discovered at their website.
If you are inspired by this cause, do consider supporting them either monetarily or by volunteering, with your words or by sharing my post.
For each letter this April, I shall be presenting a poem inspired by ‘something’ that is making our world a little bit kinder, a little bit greener. The ‘something’ is a mix of people, movements, thoughts, or organizations who are having a positive influence on the world around us.
